The Syrian army regained control of the main supply road to Aleppo following advances against Daesh militants on Monday, according to reports by state television and Reuters.

Fighting continued between Syrian government forces and Daesh in the southeast of Aleppo province, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Insurgents still control the main highway to Aleppo further to the west.

Daesh briefly seized the town of Khanaser southeast of Aleppo last week, but it was quickly regained by government forces two days later.

The government advances come on the third day of a country-wide ceasefire that excludes Daesh and al-Qaeda affiliate Nusra Front.
