Syria says Islamic Jihad not operating from Damascus

A Syrian Foreign Ministry official source announced Saturday that the offices of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Syria have been closed for a long time similar to other Palestinian groups offices. It added that the military and semi military activities of the Islamic Jihad are being launched from within the occupied Palestinian territories and not from Syria.

According to SANA, the source dismissed Israeli claims that the recent Islamic Jihad operation inside Israel was directed from Damascus, and "therefore Syria has nothing to do with recent operation or any other."

The Syrian statement came one day after the Middle East Quartet condemned the October 26 "terrorist attack on the Hadera market, responsibility for which was claimed by Palestinian Islamic Jihad, headquartered in Damascus."
