Dr. Imad Zuhair Mustafa, Syria's acting ambassador to Washington, took on Tuesday the legal oath before President Assad as a permanent ambassador to the United States.

The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara. ‏

Following the ceremony, Assad received the new ambassador and provided him with his directives, wishing him success in his job, SANA reported. ‏

Late last year, sources in Damascus said that the Syria asked the American administration to accept Mustafa, as ambassador, a post which has been vacant for years.

It should be recalled that at the same time the US Congress ratified a decision for appointing Margaret Scooby as an ambassador for the US to Syria.
