At least 37 people were killed Friday in a suicide attack targeting Newroz celebrations in Syria's northeastern Hasakah governorate, the Syrian National News Agency said Saturday.
Ninety-six people were also wounded in the attack that hit the Mufti region of Hasakah.
A previous statement on Friday by the Syrian Revolution General Commission said that 30 people were killed in the attack. The Commission is a coalition of Syrian opposition groups fighting the Assad regime.
The Kurdish Regional Government in northern Iraq condemned the attack via its official website on Saturday.
Newroz, celebrated as a day to promote peace and solidarity, marks the first day of spring in several cultures across the Balkans and Central Asia.
