A car bomb killed at least 20 people on Monday in the northern Syrian town of Darkoush, close to the Turkish border, activists said.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Monday that scores of civilians were also wounded in the explosion, which took place in the popular Darkoush market, a small rebel-controlled town two kilometres from Turkey, according to a Reuters report.
Several of the injured Syrians were taken into Turkey for treatment, Reuters added.
The Observatory, which monitors Syrian violence through a network of activists, lawyers, medical and military sources on the ground in Syria, added that 12 of the dead were identified by name and another severely charred bodies were discovered, according to Reuters.
According to the Observatory, more than 115,000 people have been killed during the now two-and-a-half year old Syrian conflict, which began with peaceful protests against President Bashar Assad in 2011.
