At least four people were killed and 22 wounded from an attack on Syria's capital following the inauguration ceremony of President Bashar Al Assad Wednesday, according to Agence France Presse.
Syria's state news agency SANA reported that mortars struck the center of the capital immediately after Assad's speech at his swearing in ceremony for his third term ended.
"Four people were killed and 22 others wounded by mortars launched by terrorists against the business district of Shaalan," reported SANA, referring to the opposition as "terrorists."
Since Assad's re-election in early June, more than 743 civilians, including 197 children, have been killed from regime raids, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Another 2,400 have been wounded in rebel-held areas, added the Observatory.
At least 170,000 people have been killed since the war commenced over three years ago, and millions more have been displaced from their homes.
