Secretary General of Sudan's Popular National Conference Party, Hasan Turabi arrived in Doha Sunday to hold a meeting with the former Sudanese prime minister and head of al-Umma Party, Sadeq Mahdi, reported Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

The talks between Turabi and Mahdi are expected to tackle the latest political developments in Sudan, said the agency.

According to the agency, these discussions are considered a continuation of previous meetings the two sides had held, the last was in may 1999 in Geneva when Turabi was the speaker of the Sudanese parliament before it was dissolved last December.

Qatar played the mediator role between the Sudanese president, Omar Bashir and Turabi regarding the disputes that occurred between them last year, KUNA added. Turabi had paid a visit last December to Qatar, which was expected to last for a week but he cut it short and returned to Khartoum, added KUNA -- Albawaba.com
