ALBAWABA - Rapid Support Forces commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti, announced the establishment of a rival government in Sudan on Tuesday, local media.

"We proudly confirm the establishment of a government of peace and unity - a broad civilian coalition that represents the true face of Sudan," Dagalo said in a Telegram statement.

He maintained: "Our government will provide basic services - education, health, and justice - not only in areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces and the movement forces, but throughout the country. We are creating a new currency, restoring economic life, and issuing new identity documents so that no Sudanese is deprived of their rights."

The announcement came on the same day people in Sudan are marking the second anniversary of the civil war which started between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RFS on April 15, 2023.

Fifteen countries and the European and African Unions called for an "immediate and permanent ceasefire" in the African country at a conference in London on Tuesday, stressing the "need to prevent the partition of Sudan."

The ongoing conflict has created the "world’s largest humanitarian crisis" and "worst displacement crisis" in history, the human rights group confirmed, adding that the country could become the only one in the world experiencing famine.

According to UNHCR, the conflict in the African country has displaced around 13 million people within Sudan and across borders, and most of the displaced are children. UNICEF revealed that in 2025, 15 million children are suffering from hunger, increased diseases and violence doubled from 7.8 million at the start of 2023.
