A claim by the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Army that it had destroyed a strategic railroad bridge in south Sudan's Bahr al-Ghazal region has been ridiculed as "naive" by a government military source, a newspaper reported Saturday.
The unnamed "informed" military source was quoted by Elshare Elsyasi daily as saying it was "naive to describe this act as important", as it was an act "repeatedly perpetrated by the rebels or by floods."
The railway workers and army troops have secured this railroad whenever it has been cut off by natural causes or by "a subversive act", said the source, adding that the SPLA claim "depicts the low morale among the rebels for the powerful strikes dealt upon them by the government troops." - KHARTOUM (AFP)
