Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi in Tehran Sunday said that his country has not received any (new) proposal from European states regarding the nuclear issue.
Addressing reporters in his weekly press briefing, he said the only proposal acceptable to Iran is one that would be in the national interest.
Any proposal should also recognize Iran`s legitimate right to the peaceful use of nuclear technology, he added.
“That kind of plan is accepted by us that first of all respects our interests since our policy is based on interests with an observation of principles, and secondly recognizes our legitimate right for a peaceful use of nuclear technology,” Asefi told the press briefing.
"Since we have not received any proposal, we cannot comment about it. Until we receive the proposal, we cannot say whether we will accept or reject it," Asefi noted.
"We will not abandon our legal right to puruse nuclear technology for peaceful purposes," he restated, but said that "a mutual understanding or agreement can be reached through dialogue."
According to IRNA news agency, Asefi stressed that Tehran has set no pre-conditions and is ready for talks. Regarding Iran's suspension of uranium enrichment, he said it has since the adoption of the IAEA resolution resumed its enrichment program, adding that "Tehran is waiting to see what would happen in the future."
