Mountain rescue teams on Thursday found the body of a climber in the Spanish Pyrenees, bringing to nine the confirmed death toll from a weekend of violent snowstorms, with two people still missing.

Rescuers found the body gone missing since Saturday, under heavy snow down a ravine near the Catalan village of Camprodon.

A fifty-strong rescue team, who are equipped with two helicopters, said they were pessimistic about finding the two remaining people alive.

The two being sought were members of two groups, one of three hikers and another of five cross-country skiers who took off from Barcelona and went missing in snowstorms on Saturday.

In total, five mountaineers were found dead, two skiers perished in the cold and two others were swept by avalanches further to the west, near the mountain principality of Andorra and the Aragon region -- BARCELONA, Spain (AFP)
