The pullout of Syrian troops from the Lebanese capital Beirut on Friday evening was a routine deployment of military units based in Lebanon, and not a withdrawal or redeployment, Syrian sources told Albawaba.com.
The sources denied that the troop movements were made under internal or external Lebanese pressure.
The Syrian troop movements were conducted amid warnings from Israel that it would hold Syria responsible for any attacks by the Lebanese Hizbollah group against Israeli troops.
A flurry of contacts between Damascus and Beirut in the past few days included meetings between Syrian president Bashar Assad and a number of Lebanese parliament members including Fares Bouez who headed to the Maronite Church in Bkirki to meet with Patriarch Sfeir following his visit to Damascus.
Bouez said in statements to the press that he found great flexibility in Damascus regarding a demand by some Lebanese figures and groups to mend Syrian-Lebanese relations
