Somali security forces have regained control of a government ministry in Somalia's capital from members of Islamist militant group al-Shabaab, a security official says.

A police officer says militants detonated a car bomb and stormed the Ministry of Education. Officials told Reuters the extremists killed at least five people.

Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack on pro-insurgent radio station Andalus.

The group earlier this month was responsible for the massacre on a Kenyan university that killed 148 people.
