Al Shabaab claims responsibility for Kenya university attack

The Islamist group al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for an attack on a university campus in Kenya, where at least 14 people have been killed, according to Reuters.

Al-Shabaab also says that is now holding Christian hostages.

The attack happened this morning in the town of Garissa near the Kenya-Somalia border.

In a statement by Kenyan police, it was reported that the attackers had forced their way into Garissa University at around 5.30 am, shooting the guards at the university's main gate.

Two of the fatalities were guards.
