Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi Thursday opened talks in Nairobi between representatives of Somalia's transitional government and armed rebel groups opposed to it.

Somalia's interim President Abdulkassim Salat Hassan led the government delegation while the armed factions were represented by members of the Somali Restoration and Reconciliation Council, an umbrella body of armed groups, led by its secretary general Mowlid Ma'an Mohamud.

"If this meeting gives us an all-inclusive government, I will have the border opened tomorrow," said Moi.

Moi ordered the closure of Kenya's border with Somalia several months ago and banned trade between the two countries, saying insecurity in the war-torn Horn of African country was spilling into Kenya -- NAIROBI, (AFP)
