Knowledge Oasis will conclude its 2004 – 2005 Open House season on Tuesday 5 July at 5:30pm with a workshop entitled: Exploiting Your ICT Systems delivered by Dr. Graham Smith the Contracting and Procurement SAP Asset Manager for Petroleum Development Oman. Dr. Smith is also the Shell Middle Eastern transactional e-Procurement Co-ordinator.
According to Ibtisam Al Faruji, Marketing Assistant, PEIE “the workshop is intended for individuals wanting more information on how ICT hard and software can be used to improve the image and profitability of their business.” Al Faruji added: “Dr. Smith’s session will explain how software applications can save businesses time, money and improve their image – for example, by utilizing e-mail, spreadsheets and accountancy packages. He’ll look at how to use the Internet to find useful information. How to use a database that can help businesses build profitable relationships with customers and prospects He’ll discuss developing a website and trading online. In brief, attendees will discover what software applications are capable of and the importance of investing in the appropriate software.”
Dr. Smith has spent the last 30 three years in the Contracting and Procurement industry primarily in the Oil and Gas exploration and Production environment. He has worked for many of the oil majors in his career; this includes Mobil, ESSO, and ARCO and is currently with Shell International in Petroleum Development Oman. He has worked in many different countries with a diverse range of cultures; these include Africa, Russia, The Far East and the USA.
Graham is a member of both the Internet Society and the British Computer Society working on projects which have helped in bridging the “Digital Divide” in many countries. He is an active member of the United Nations Development Programmes that brings the use of the Internet to rural environments and emerging nations. He holds a Doctorate in e-Commerce and Internet Evolution. Graham regularly lectures at Internet Society and Supply Chain Management events around the world and is known and respected as one of the main proponents for the introduction of XML coding structure into the e-Commerce environment at the Internet Society Conference in San Jose, California in 1995. He is also a regular contributor to the newly-launched Digital Oman magazine.
