Israel's air force launched an attack on a Gaza City building early Wednesday, killing at least five people, according to Palestinian witnesses.

Officials at al-Shifa'a hospital in Gaza city said that an Israeli aircraft fired several missiles at a house in the Gaza Strip neighbourhood of al-Shajaiya, killing five and critically wounding four others.

Witnesses at the scene said they did not see or hear a missile hit the house, but said an unmanned Israeli plane was hovering overhead at the time. The Israeli military said it was an air force strike.

According to The AP, Palestinians said the attack took place near a house belonging to Ahmed Jabari, a senior activist of Hamas.

According to some reports, Jabari himself suffered moderate wounds from the blast, while other reports claimed he escaped unharmed.

Dozens of Hamas activists gathered at Gaza City's Shifa Hospital, where the dead and wounded were taken.

In the West Bank city of Ramallah, a Palestinian was killed while five others wounded. Palestinian security sources announced that an Israeli unknown object exploded inside a house in Kofor Ein town, north of Ramallah city, immediately killing Yossef al-Rifa'i and seriously wounding five of his family members.
