A father, his three sons and two more accomplices believed to have robbed and murdered three Omani gold merchants have been arrested, police said Saturday.

The six suspects lured two of their brothers and their cousin to a farm north of the capital Muscat on September 4th by convincing them they would meet a major client who wanted to buy gold worth 500,000 dollars.

When the gold merchants arrived with the booty, they were asked to turn off their mobile telephones for the meeting.

They were "brutally" murdered and their bodies dumped miles away in a car, a senior police officer told a press conference, but he refused to give details of the killings.

Relatives of the missing gold merchants alerted police – MUSCAT (AFP)
