Siemens Ltd. was a sponsor of the
Urban Transport 2010 Conference and Exhibition, which was recently held in Riyadh on January 25-27. Siemens Ltd. showcased its ‘Complete Mobility’ portfolio which includes high speed trains and mass transit turnkey solutions.

The Haramain High-speed Railway Project will be a 500-kilometer high-speed link between the cities of Mecca and Medina. It will enable many of the 20 million pilgrims who visit these cities each year to travel quickly and comfortably. The suburban line between Mina and Arafat is also being expanded as quickly as possible. The Al-Mashaaer Al-Mugaddassah line will connect them with traveling speeds up to 100 kilometers per hour. Electricity will be provided by a Siemens traction power supply.

Growing cities result in a growing demand for sophisticated traffic solutions. State-of-the-art mass transit solutions are in demand. Rail is proving to be the fastest, safest, most environmentally friendly and most cost-effective approach to this objective – and as a convenient alternative to individual transport.

Saudi Arabia plans to invest around $400 billion in its infrastructure over the next five years.
