Speaker of Lebanon’s Supreme Shiite Assembly Sheikh Muhammad Mehdi Shamseddin, died in Paris on Sunday as a result of lung cancer, reported Iran News Agency (IRNA).  

Sheikh Shamseddin, 65, has been undergoing treatment at the hospital of the American University of Beirut for the last two months, said the agency.  

He was admitted then to one of the specialized hospitals in Paris in order to continue the treatment.  

Sheikh Muhammad Mehdi was appointed Vice-Speaker of the Supreme Lebanese Shiite Assembly 30 years ago and served the Assembly as its Speaker for the past 10 years, according to the agency – Albawaba.com
