The Gulf emirate of Sharjah, near Dubai, aims to feed at least 20,000 people at an "iftar" meal that breaks the dawn-to-dusk Muslim fast during Ramadan, newspapers said Sunday.
The December 22 iftar, on the last Friday of the holy fasting month, will be served on tables running a full six kilometers (almost four miles), at a cost of three million dirhams (800,000 dollars) to company sponsors.
The organizers have contacted the Guinness Book of Records seeking an entry for the world's biggest iftar -- SHARJAH (AFP)
