AFP has reported that seven women have been detained by Tunisian authorities for spreading Internet propaganda on behalf of the Daesh affiliate Jund al-Khilafa, who is currently operating in the country.
The interior ministry announced on Monday that the women had confessed to “activities within the media wing.”
The women also confessed to have "incited terrorism through their posts (on the Internet) and of having expressed joy at the terrorist attacks in our country”, the ministry said in a statement.
No further details were given about the suspects.
Jund al-Khilafa is responsible for the two attacks earlier this year in both Tunis and the seaside resort of Sousse, which collectively left 60 people dead.
The news of the women's arrest came shortly after Tunisian intelligence reportedlydismantled a Daesh cell, avoiding a major terror attack planned on hotels and against security forces.
According to authorities in the North African Country, many young Tunisians have traveled to Iraq, Syria and Libya to fight with Islamic extremist groups.
