Seven people were killed and dozens injured in three days of communal clashes in a village on Indonesia's Sulawesi island, the state news agency Antara reported Wednesday.

The fighting in the village of Atinggola, in the province of Gorontalo, was set off by a minor dispute on New Year's Eve.

It involved youths from two districts and continued until late Tuesday, Antara said without giving further details of the dispute.

Police have been deployed to contain the violence.
