Palestinian Ministry of Interior announced Thursday that municipal electoral process runs smoothly at all ballot stations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The Ministry added that elections flow as being planned, affirming that "nothing harms the democratic process in spite of heavy presence of voters at the ballot stations."
Thursday's vote is the second phase of municipal elections in 84 cities, villages and towns in West Bank Gaza Strip and neighbouring Jerusalem.
Director General of Elections Executive Office, Firas Yaghi said that 400.605 enfranchised persons started casting their votes in poll stations to choose 2509 candidates out of which 327 in Gaza Strip. All in all, there are 399 female candidates out of which 59 in the Strip.
All the candidates run for 906 seats in all municipalities and rural councils. The first phase of the municipal elections took place in January, 27, 2005.
