Two Saudi planes left Riyadh Tuesday for an Egyptian town near the Gaza Strip to evacuate 14 Palestinians wounded in recent violence, the Palestinian ambassador in Saudi Arabia said.
The planes were headed for El-Arish, located on the Mediterranean coast about 50 kilometers (30 miles) west of Rafah, in the Gaza Strip, said Mustapha al-Sheikh Dib.
Dib, who was to travel on one of the flights, said the 14 Palestinians were to join 46 others who have already been taken to hospitals in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam.
The latest flights are part of a program ordered by Saudi King Fahd recently to aid the Palestinians and which includes sending 20 ambulances to the Palestinian territories.
Saudi Arabia has soundly condemned the violence that broke out on September 28 and which have cost the lives of more than 135 people and left some 4,000 injured – RIYADH (AFP)
