A Saudi convicted murderer was spared from execution at the very last moment as his victim's brother granted a pardon, a newspaper reported on Saturday.
Okaz said the executioner had his sword ready to slice off the head of Hussein al-Ruili at a public square in Arar near the Iraqi border on Friday when the brother stepped in.
"We pardon you only to please God," said the brother, a member of the same tribe as the convict. He also turned down any "diya", or blood money, to which the victim's family is entitled under the Islamic laws applied in Saudi Arabia - RIYADH (AFP)
