Saudi investors plan to build a tourist resort, including a five-star hotel, in Bahrain at an estimated cost of between $75-$100 million, Gulf News reported on Wednesday.

A statement issued by Bahrain's Finance and National Economy Ministry was quoted by the daily as saying that the ministry signed an agreement on Wednesday leasing a plot of land to the investors near the capital Manama.

The statement, according to the paper, did not name the investors but said work would begin soon on the project, which would include a five-star hotel, restaurants and a shopping mall.

Bahrain, linked to Saudi Arabia by a 25-km bridge over the Arabian Gulf, is considered a relatively free haven to thousands of Saudi visitors who cannot seek many leisure time activities in their conservative country - Albawaba.com
