Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has warned a group of army officers to be vigilant against any signs of treason in the ranks.
Tuesday's newspapers quoted him calling on his forces to be vigilant against treachery. "Treason everywhere is a state of weakness, it is the height of human weakness. As a matter of fact, it reflects man's renunciation of his humanity," Saddam said.
"Treason is an unmanly act ... It does not frighten. However, in times of inattention, it may produce a treacherous act," newspapers quoted Saddam as saying to the officers.
Saddam has held a series of meetings with his top commanders over the last few days urging them to be prepared in terms of training and logistics to face up to any U.S. assault.
"I do not have, nor should you have any concern. However, you should demonstrate vigilance, the legitimate and appropriate vigilance," he told the officers. (Albawaba.com)
