Iraq’s President has called for the government to take measures to encourage Iraqis living abroad to keep links to their homeland, Foreign Minister Naji Sabri said on Monday.
Saddam Hussein has "given instructions for Iraqi emigrants abroad to strengthen ties with their families and homeland," Sabri said in a statement, according to AFP.
He called for measures "to improve laws and regulations concerning Iraqi emigrants so as to better support being far from their country" - including one to aid Iraqis getting married abroad.
Children of Iraqi expatriates who have documentation of having left the country will be given free education in Iraq under the proposed measures, the foreign minister conveyed. Those without official documents would pay only 50 percent of fees. (Albawaba.com)
