ALBAWABA- NATO has condemned the violation of Romanian airspace by Russian drones as a dangerous and "irresponsible" act.
On Thursday, Romanian and Ukrainian authorities confirmed that Russia launched 38 Shahed kamikaze drones targeting Ukraine, with three of them crossing into Romania's airspace.
Ukraine's air defense systems managed to shoot down 25 of the drones, according to the Ukrainian air force.
However, three of the Shahed drones entered Romanian territory, near Ukraine's Odesa region, which had been heavily bombed overnight.
Romanian Foreign Minister Luminiţa Odobescu condemned the attacks on X, stating, "More heinous attacks have been perpetrated by Russia against Ukrainian civilian infrastructure. Debris has been found on Romanian territory. We have informed and are coordinating with our Allies on this matter. Romania strongly condemns these irresponsible actions."
During the attacks on the Odesa region, residents in Romania's Tulcea area reported hearing multiple blasts and were warned by authorities about possible drone fragments. The public was urged not to panic, as the Russian drones were "not specifically targeting Romania."
In response, two Finnish Air Force F-18 jets were dispatched from a Romanian air base to monitor the situation, as confirmed by Romania's defense ministry.
NATO has reiterated that such incidents of Russian drones entering Romanian airspace during strikes on Ukraine are both irresponsible and dangerous.
