Russia has a good chance of winning a tender for launching an Iranian telecommunications satellite, Director General of the Russian Aerospace Agency (Rosaviacosmos), Yuri Koptev, was quoted as saying Wednesday by the Russian Space Daily.

Koptev said the topic was discussed during the recent visit by President Mohammad Khatami to Moscow.

Russia has wide opportunities for cooperation with Iran in the space sphere, Koptev said.

Iran announced a tender on manufacturing and launching a telecommunications satellite, in which Russian enterprises are taking part, he said.

"Russia has every chance of winning it [the tender], and then we will manufacture a satellite for Iran, launch it and, possibly, will control its flight," he told the daily.

According to the daily, Iran is a developing country planning to advance along different avenues of technical progress, including the development of high-tech and space technology – Albawaba.com
