Russia denounced Thursday's bomb attack on a busy shopping center in west Jerusalem in which two people died, saying the blast aimed to wreck moves to halt spiraling Israeli-Palestinian violence.
In a statement, the foreign ministry expressed its "indignation and deepest concern" over the explosion, which was claimed by the military arm of the Islamic Jihad in Palestine.
"Similar reckless acts are clearly intended to wreck Israeli-Palestinian agreements to stabilize the situation in the Palestinian territories," the ministry statement said.
"This is why it is very important now to show maximum restraint and not rise to provocations by those who have sought, and who continue to seek, to continue the bloodshed," the statement added.
Russia "will in the future undertake the most intense measures to normalize the situation and create conditions for the resumption of political dialogue," it added -- MOSCOW (AFP)
