It seems fame has gone to Russell Crowe’ head; he now believes his is the best actor in the world.

The burly Hollywood star stunned cast and crew on the set of

his breakthrough movie Gladiator when he made the less-than-modest announcement.

Crowe, now dating sex symbol Meg Ryan, walked out of a

script-reading session and threatened not to film vital scenes

for the blockbusting Roman epic.

William Nicholson, Gladiator screenplay writer, says, "there

was one scene which Russell just did not want to do.

"Eventually he did the scene unbelievably well and the

director Ridley Scott said `Russell what's the problem? You

did that so well.'

"Russell responded by saying "the lines are crap but I am

the greatest actor in the world and I can make even crap sound

good’” – Neil Batey, Wenn.
