Understanding with World Health Organization Jordan Office (WHO)

The Royal Health Awareness Society signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Health Organization Jordan Office (WHO) on the 10th of March 2008, during a meeting that was attended by Enaam Barrishi, Director General of RHAS, together with Dr. Hashim El Zein El-Mousaad, WHO Representative in Jordan and Head of Mission.


This one-year agreement targets RHAS’s National Health Campaign which aims at spreading and raising awareness to various health related issues that are of priority and relevance for the population – wide scale. The campaign will be perused through placing health messages containing facts and figures in local media vehicles in a comic fashion with the aim of modifying people’s behaviors when they acquire a better understanding of various health indicators.

Upon this agreement, The World Health Organization’s Jordan office will provide technical assistance and confirm scientific content of the monthly health messages as a credible resource for the health messages tailored.


“We take pride in our rewarding relationship with WHO which will be further reinforced through the signing of this MoU. Our main and ultimate goal is to promote for a healthy Jordanian society by initiating and supporting preventive health initiatives that focus on behavior change. Such objective will be accomplished by utilizing a scientific and systematic approach raising awareness on dangerous behaviors through using credible and shocking facts,” said Enaam Barrishi, Director General of RHAS.


Moreover, and upon this agreement, WHO and RHAS will jointly work towards developing social mobilization and strengthening advocacy activities aimed at obtaining local official commitment and creating a supportive environment for the implementation of a wide range of Health Promotion interventions.


“The vision of RHAS is in line with the mandate of WHO to improve the lives of people in Jordan. Both WHO and RHAS believe that this can be achieved by developing effective collaborative programs to increase positive health behaviors. We are confident that this collaboration will enhance the effectiveness of the National Health Campaign and fortify the health messages that will be transparently communicated to the public,” said Dr. Hashim El Zein El-Mousaad, WHO Representative in Jordan and Head of Mission.
