Three armed robbery suspects on Sunday escaped a major security ambush and a police car chase in western Amman, police sources said.
Around 40 police cars mobilized to catch the gang, two men and one woman, in the Khalda neighborhood of west Amman, an official told the Jordan Times.
Another police official said that the suspects were driving a stolen black Mercedes sedan.
He said “the three Jordanian suspects left the car in an area of west Amman and escaped on foot between the buildings.” He did not specify where the car was left.
The three are wanted in armed robbery cases.
Another informed source said the three had been jailed and released in the mid-1990s, but had recently resumed their criminal activities.
The nearly two-hour chase took place in the high-traffic areas around the University of Jordan and the Tlaa Al Ali neighborhood.
The police source blamed his department's failure to apprehend the gang on people who stopped their cars on the road or stood watching the chase – Albawaba.com
