U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Friday met Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in a bid to assure the implementation of the so called "disengagement plan." According to Haaretz, Rice and Sharon discussed Israel's preparations for the disengagement and attempts to coordinate the move with the Palestinian Authority.

The meeting, described by the Israeli prime minister's office sources as "excellent," was followed by breakfast for the American delegation and their Israeli counterparts.

Meanwhile, Israeli occupation forces shelled early Friday some Palestinian houses in Khan Yunis, south of Gaza Strip. Witnesses were quoted as saying that Israeli soldiers stationed in the settlement of "Ganei Tal" opened fire on the houses in the Amel neighborhood in the western side of the city.

In another development, a Hamas member who was wounded last week during an Israeli assassination attempt, died early Friday in a Gaza Strip hospital.
