A stray US bomb killed one person Saturday in this village controlled by Afghan opposition forces and injured seven, residents said Sunday.

Relatives said a woman was killed by the bomb, which damaged two houses in this village controlled by anti-Taliban opposition forces and located some 80 kilometers (50 miles) northeast of Kabul.

Earlier reports from an ambulance driver and opposition sources had indicated that as many as 10 people may have died in the bombing and erroneously identified the village as Khan Agaha, a village near here.

Said Allam, 37, a relative, identified the slain woman as Koko Gul, 23, and said she was buried on Sunday.

He said the seven injured were not in serious condition and were taken to a hospital in the Panjshir Valley.

Ganikhel is located some three kilometers (two miles) from the frontlines between opposition Northern Alliance forces and the Taliban militia defending Kabul.

Mirza Khan, 35, the slain woman's husband, said he was tending to his cows and his wife was sewing a wedding dress for a relative when the US bomb fell.

"I was looking after the cows when I heard a loud noise and saw a big cloud of dust. I crawled through the wreckage and found my wife, dead," he said. "I'm not angry. Even if I was I couldn't do anything about it."
