Israeli security forces have arrested a PA officer belonging to the Palestinian Preventive Security apparatus in the West Bank, reported The Jerusalem Post newspaper, quoting Palestinian official as telling Israel Radio.
According to the report, Kamal Abu Srur, holding the rank of lieutenant, was arrested Wednesday south of the West Bank city of Nablus.
Israeli security sources confirmed that Abu Srur had been on a wanted list for some time, said the Post.
A Palestinian official told the radio that Abu Srur was the third official arrested in forty-eight hours.
The paper added that Israeli police arrested Tuesday night another member of the Preventive Security apparatus in Beit Hanina near Jerusalem.
He was allegedly caught in possession of classified Israeli army maps.
Meanwhile, the paper added that sporadic clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinian demonstrators flared in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, but there were no reports of injuries.
Palestinian gunmen were reportedly opening fire on Israeli troops near various Jewish settlements.
The paper added that there was an exchange of fire between armed Palestinians and Israeli troops in the industrial area and the southern District Coordinating Office.
