Four policemen were killed Friday near the Russian republic of Dagestan's border with breakaway Chechnya when gunmen opened fire on their car, Interfax news agency reported.
The ambush took place early afternoon just outside the village of Alexander Nevsky, Interfax cited Dagestani border officials as saying. A fifth policeman was also wounded.
A week ago, three high-ranking Russian intelligence officers were killed in a similar attack in Chechnya just across the border from Dagestan.
