Seventy-five percent of all gas masks imported into Kuwait are faulty and appeared to be made of old car tire rubber, which could even kill their users, according to a newspaper report.

Al-Qabas daily, in its Tuesday edition, quoted Czech experts as rebuking civil defense authorities and those responsible for importing the gas masks as "senile, asleep and unready for any emergency."

"These masks, it seems as if they were made of outdated or expired car tire rubber," one expert was quoted by the paper as saying.

He said it was important that the government monitors and strengthens controls on imported civil defense equipment, especially gas masks, which may end up killing their users if faulty.

"Using this type of gas mask in the wrong way can kill its users," he said. (Albawaba.com)
