Islamic fundamentalists angered by the violence in the Middle East have distributed posters calling on British Muslims to "kill Jews," a newspaper reported in London on Thursday.

The report comes days after an Orthodox Jewish student was seriously wounded in a stabbing attack on a London bus.

An Algerian man has been arrested in connection with the attack, prompting fears among the Jewish community here that the unrest between Israel and the Palestinians will lead to them being targeted.

The Daily Telegraph said that fundamentalist group al-Muhajiroun, based in Britain, was handing out posters and leaflets in major cities.

One poster distributed in Birmingham, central England, showed an Israeli flag superimposed with the slogan: "The Final Hour will not come until the Muslims kill the Jews," according to the newspaper.

The Telegraph said Jewish leaders in Britain had asked police to intervene to stop distribution of the anti-Semitic literature, saying they feared it could incite violence.

Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohamed, leader of al-Muhajiroun, was quoted by the newspaper as saying the posters and leaflets were merely a warning not to support Israel.

"We advise Jews here to keep apart from the conflict," the group's leader was quoted as saying – LONDON (AFP)
