Qatar has called for deposed President Morsi of Egypt to be released from military detention.
A Qatar foreign ministry official, who remained unamed, was quoted by state news agency QNA as saying there was "concern over the developments in Egypt, especially with the increasing number of civilian victims".
Qatar was also "surprised by the continued detention of elected president Mohamed Morsi which threatens the achivements made by the 25 January (2011) revolt".
The foreign ministry official called for "a political solution based on national unity dialogue" to resolve Egypt's crisis situation. He added that any political solution "cannot be achieved in the absence of one of the parties in the dialogue and the continued arrest of its symbols'.
Morsi, as well as several other senior Muslim Brotherhood figures, have been in detention since the Egyptian military overthrew the former President several weeks ago.
Qatar now joins the ranks of the United Nations, European Union and United States in calling for Morsi's release.
Qatar was a keen political and financial supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood during their time in power.
