Qatar will issue soon a law that bans the use of mobile phones while driving, reported the Gulf Times Wednesday.
The law will also make the use of seat belts compulsory throughout the country for the driver and front seat passenger, said the paper.
“The law is under the active consideration of the government, and could be issued any time,” said Mohamed Malki, head of planning and safety at the traffic department.
Under the proposed law, drivers using mobile phones, if caught, could be fined QR300 ($82).
Compulsory use of seat belts would also be extended to throughout the country, he said. “Right now, it is applicable only on Qatar's highways,” he said, adding that violators could be fined QR100 ($27) – Albawaba.com
