Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed the need for Russia to develop stronger ties with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a letter delivered to UAE President Sheikh Zayed Monday, the Kremlin said.

The message stressed Russia's policy of broadening political cooperation and forging bilateral ties with the United Arab Emirates, the Kremlin said in a statement faxed to AFP.

According to the communiqué, Putin also touched upon international issues such as the collapsed Middle East peace process and on ways to resolve the Iraqi problem, in the letter delivered by his Middle East envoy Vassily Sredin.

The Russian deputy foreign minister has been visiting six Arab Gulf countries. He has already traveled to Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. On Tuesday, Sredin will head for Oman for the final leg of the tour – MOSCOW (AFP)
