In a ceremony in Boston, US on Wednesday, 50 journalists from five continents were named "world press freedom heroes" by the International Press Institute (IPI), reported AFP Thursday.
Three Arab journalists were among those given credit as heroes of journalism, according to a statement issued last month by IPI. These are Daoud Kuttab from Palestine, Nizar Nayyouf from Syria, and Algerian Omar Belhouchet.
The 50 were chosen by the IPI for "significant contribution" to the defense or promotion of press freedom in their country or worldwide over the last 50 years, the IPI, said in the statement.
Based in Vienna, Austria, the IPI is 50-year-old "global network of editors, media executives and leading journalists ... for the defense of press freedom," according to its Web site –- Albawaba.com
