Five people, including three guards, were killed in fresh violence this week in Algeria, newspapers here said Thursday.
Two forest wardens were decapitated late Tuesday by suspected Islamic extremists in Bouderbala, near Lakdharia, some 110 kilometers (65 miles) west of the capital, the daily Le Matin reported.
The killers laid the victims' heads on a street in the town, the report said.
In the same area, a restaurant owner was found killed early Wednesday, according to the paper.
In Tiaret, some 340 kilometers (200 miles) from the capital, Islamists killed a civilian guard on Tuesday night, several newspapers said.
Meanwhile, in the same area, a woman was killed by a stray bullet fired by soldiers during an ambush on an armed group in Frenda, Le Matin said.
The civil war in Algeria, which broke out in 1992 after the military stepped in to deny certain electoral victory by the Islamic Salvation Front (FIS), has claimed more than 100,000 lives -- ALGIERS (AFP)
