A political tug-of-war over a prayer room disrupted classes at the Lebanese University in the Bekaa on Monday, reported the Daily Star newspaper.
The newly-formed student council at the biology faculty decided to boycott classes on Monday and Tuesday after the administration seized a room that students used for prayers, said the paper.
Most of the council members are supporters of the Lebanese Hizbollah movement, who are accused of having turned the student room into a mosque.
The professors’ general committee, said the paper, warned students that they could find themselves in trouble with the authorities if there is further disorder on campus.
The students involved received support from students in the political science and law faculty, who also boycotted their classes on Monday, the paper added – Albawaba.com
