Parmigiani sponsors Montreux jazz festival 2009
The largest gathering of music lovers in the world expected to attract 200,000
Parmigiani Fleurier - the independent luxury Swiss watch brand - has renewed its commitment to the world of music for the second consecutive year as main sponsor of the Montreux Jazz Festival that concludes in Switzerland on July 18th. The festival is expected to attract well over 200,000 people.
With its strong commitment to promoting Swiss excellence among the wider public, Parmigiani Fleurier has found in the Montreux Jazz Festival a tailor-made setting for choice encounters with the most discerning audience comprising one of the largest gathering of music lovers in the world.
Present since 2007, the Parmigiani brand has made a noteworthy commitment to the festival, every year finding new synergies enabling it to raise its profile.
Parmigiani is also supporting young talents through its partnership with the Montreux Jazz Foundation 2, and are sponsoring workshops where the artists have carte blanche for these intimate encounters with the public. Technical demonstrations, debate, sharing a personal journey: each artist chooses their own form of expression. The guests are all artists featured in the Festival's official program and appear free of charge.
The 43rd edition of this annual event will feature performances by 100 artists from various genres, including rock, pop, soul, blues and jazz.
Prominent among the artists lined up at this year’s event include British pop singer Lily Allen, rambunctious Jamaican vocalist Grace Jones, Jazz great Herbie Hancock and the virtuoso Chinese classical pianist Lang Lang, guitarists George Benson and BB King will also play their jazz and blues at centre stage.
Classic rockers Alice Cooper and John Fogerty will perform at the festival which will also put on shows by more modern alternative acts like Bloc Party and the jam outfit the Dave Matthews Band.
Alongside the main stage concerts, dozens of artists will play music through all hours of the day and night for free in the scenic area at the eastern end of Lake Geneva.
Montreux Jazz Festival line-up attracts some huge names in jazz as well as artists with broader appeal and Parmigiani Fleurier utilizes the event by sharing the highlights with its staff, watchmaking partners, customers and the international media to sample the summer music festivities: a showcase that Parmigiani will harness by choosing to present a Swiss preview of its first Collection Atelier, bringing together exceptional timepieces.
In 43 years, the Montreux Jazz Festival has made history and forged lasting relationships along the way. There’s also the relationship between the Festival and the public, who travel to Montreux from across Switzerland and around the world in ever greater numbers each year. The Festival has evolved greatly since 1967; however, its length, venue and initial spirit have remained the same: A shared musical experience in the highest quality conditions and with the largest possible audience.
Montreux Jazz Festival’s stages have been graced by all of music’s greats, from Miles Davis to Ray Charles and from David Bowie to Massive Attack. Whereas Jazz constitutes the Festival’s historic core, other styles of music were quickly integrated into the Festival, bound together by a common thread of mutual curiosity and enthusiasm. Having made its reputation with its ambitious programming choices, the Montreux Jazz Festival offers musicians an ideal platform and an intimate setting for the duration of its two weeks.
