The Palestinian leadership late Friday hit out at what it called an Israeli "public relations exercise" aimed at releasing Israel from its obligations.
"Israel is carrying out a public relations exercise to cover up its intransigent attitude and its refusal to apply accords reached (with the Palestinians) as well as international resolutions" concerning the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, said a statement released after the leadership's weekly meeting in Ramallah.
Israel had on Friday stepped up its diplomatic offensive calling on the international community to press for an easing of the Palestinian position on Jerusalem.
The Palestinian leadership called on Israel to apply UN Security Council resolutions 242 and 338 under which it should withdraw from the Arab territories occupied since 1967.
The Palestinian leadership stressed its rejection of any Israeli sovereignty over east Jerusalem and the city's Muslim and Christian holy places.
It expected support from a meeting in Morocco Monday of the al-Qods (Jerusalem) Committee to be attended by Palestinian President Yasser Arafat -- RAMALLAH, West Bank (AFP)
