A Palestinian 23-day-old infant died after she inhaled tear gas fired at Palestinian demonstrators in Hebron Saturday, reported Palestine news agency (WAFA).
Moussa Abu Hmeid, Palestinian director general of hospitals in the West Bank told the agency that Hind Nedal Qweider died after the Israeli forces fired a tear gas bomb at the house where the infant and her family lived.
Meanwhile, a 13-year-old-girl was killed and 38 others were injured by Israeli troops Saturday during clashes in Palestinian territories, hospital sources said, according to AFP.
Ghazaleh Jawdat was hit in the head while she was heading home from school in the West Bank city of Hebron.
Eight Palestinians were injured near the West Bank flashpoint of Hebron, the sources said.
Another 10 Palestinians were injured by Israeli gunfire at Bethlehem, also in the West Bank.
In the Gaza Strip, the day began with clashes near the Bureij refugee camp, on the border with Israel, which left at least eight Palestinians injured, medical officials said.
Soon afterwards, Palestinian youths began clashing with Israeli soldiers at Erez, the main crossing point between the Gaza Strip and Israel, witnesses said.
In hours of sporadic skirmishes, five Palestinians were wounded and a factory set ablaze, witnesses said.
In the afternoon, Palestinian youths began throwing stones at Israeli army positions at the volatile Karni crossing point, used by Jews to reach their disputed settlement at nearby Netzarim.
Israeli soldiers fired back with rubber bullets and live rounds, witnesses said.
By mid-afternoon, seven Palestinians had been wounded, two of them seriously, officials at Gaza City's Shifa hospital told the agency.
Karni crossing was the scene of angry confrontations between Israeli and Palestinians on Friday, which left 12 people injured and prompted the Israelis to re-deploy tanks and armored vehicles they had withdrawn the day before under a fragile truce agreed between Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and former Israeli prime minister Shimon Peres.
The tanks, along with those re-deployed Friday outside Kfar Darom Jewish settlement in the center of the Gaza Strip, were withdrawn again during the night, witnesses said.
A number of violent incidents were reported overnight in the Gaza Strip and West Bank, including the use of rockets and shells by the Israeli forces in response, an army spokesman said, to gunfire from Palestinians.
The spokesman said, however, there had been "a decrease in the number of incidents reported during the night, which was relatively calm." - (Several Sources)
